To maintain licensure, the Psychologist or Counsellor needs to complete at least 18 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every year.

Psychologists and counsellors can earn up to 100% of their Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through independent learning, including online courses, CD-ROMs, and home study. They can also earn up to 4 CEUs for teaching psychology, verified by their educational institution. Approved CEUs are provided by organizations like the Caribbean Alliance of National Psychological Associations (CANPA) or the American Psychological Association (APA). Psychologists and counsellors must keep their own CE certificates and submit them with license renewal forms to the CPSM.

Programme Accreditation Status

How to check your programme’s accreditation status

  • Check the institution’s website- most accredited institutions include their accreditation details somewhere on their website. It is important to verify that the accrediting agency is legitimate- further search of the governing education body should help in verifying this. 

 

  • Check with your local or regional accreditation body, such as the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ). If your program is not listed, you may contact the UCJ directly. 

 

  • If you are unable to find information about your institution’s accreditation status from the above strategies, email your programme coordinator or academic advisor for further information about your programme/insitution.

Accredited Psychology & Counselling
Programmes in Jamaica

In order to be licensed for practice in Jamaica as a psychologist or counsellor, you will be required to hold an accredited degree in your area of specialization. Below is a list of counselling and psychology programmes in Jamaica that are accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ). Should you have an accredited degree from another institution outside of Jamaica, please submit your degree to the UCJ for evaluation. Note that persons who hold an accredited Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or an accredited graduate degree in a related area, can apply to be affiliate members of JamPsych but would not be eligible for licensure.
